SharePoint 2013 - WCM - Incorporating Videos into Pages

A while ago I was working on a project for a client who needed to incorporate quite a few videos into their SharePoint portal. Needless to say the process wasn't easy or friendly. But with the advent of SharePoint 2013 this pain is going to go away!

SharePoint 2013 has some cool features for content authors that will let adding Videos into your pages without any fuss. It all starts with a new content type named "Video".

What is even more cool here is that SharePoint can automatically generate a preview thumbnail for the video. You think that's not so very cool? Then here is another one for you. You can select a specific frame to be the thumbnail for the video. But you'd need the Desktop Experience installed on the web front end for this to work.

Uploading a video is exactly the same as uploading a document. Once you're done with that, you can open the page of your choice in the "Edit / Design" mode and simply choose to add a Video from the "Insert" tab on the Ribbon. While in the "Design" mode, you also get to specify if the video should start running upon page load or run in a loop etc. This is also the place where you get to select an image for the Video Preview. And BTW, you also get cool previews of videos right out of the document library itself.
